TGIF again - The end of my urological rotation

My two weeks of clinical rotation in urology have finished with a very peculiar class today. Lars (he's our main urology teacher, you can see him in some of the pictures taken during the cruise to Åland) arranged a "Urological Vernissage" during which we were wandering around the classroom trying to match the pictures and the cases on the walls with the list in our hands. During that time we were offered cookies, coffee and home made raspberry muffins!!! I had very good results both with the clinical cases and the pictures. Unfortunately I had forgotten my camera home, otherwise I'd have taken some funny pictures of people eating muffins and discussing naturally in front of many pictures of strange penises. I think I'm gonna nominate Lars for the best teacher prize (pris till bästa lärare) 2007. Not only he has been creative in organizing urology classes till now, but he's also a great teacher in the ward and in the OR: enthusiast, smiling, untiring and giving us the possibility to practice in any occasion. These two weeks has begun with an interesting introduction day during which Lars had given us our personal schedule (nothing was left to case), a brief but exhaustive urology book, he showed us all the urological department and he teached us some basis in urology. During the following days we were able to go to the open ward, to the morning Röntgen meetings, to the OR, to the ESWL unit etc. I really had a great time! I've seen so many interesting things and now I'm able to perform some procedures (see one, do one, teach one). Let's skip the fact that in Florence I've never met even one single urological patient. Yesterday I was on the climax of my happiness (indeed I was so excited that I went home forgetting my lunchbox in our student room fridge): Lars gave me the opportunity to assist him in an operation I was interested in (even if it wasn't my OR day): a case of IPP. Well, Lars was the guy with the scalpel, but I did the rest: cauterization, pulling here, keeping there, injecting someting, putting some stitches, catheterization... I hope the patient will be happy with his new straight penis!
